I read a lot of blogs. Recently it has been noted that grey is the hottest neutral. I like grey. But I also like white, cream, black and brown. I couldn’t see it as a neutral. Being the hands-on type of girl that I am the natural choice was to get some and play with it. I’m now sold. Its amazing to work with!
Its easier for me to work in whole bolts. I cashed in a coupon to get a bolt of Kona Coal to play with. Then I carried it to the Austin Modern Quilt Guild retreat last weekend. Afterall, the retreat place has the huge design walls and like minded girls to help me over my grey issues. I also took my fat quarter collection of Kate Spain’s Central Park. I’ve been hoarding it, but if I want to get some (as much as I can get my hands on without my husband protesting) of Kate Spain’s Terrain coming out in the fall, I needed to use up Central Park first. Makes sense, right? I can just tell him that I am out of Kate Spain fabric…..
I can never decide which Central Park colors to use, so I used all of them and came up with the quilt top below. I started out doing a random arrangement, but then moved into an ombre look. I’m very proud of it, I even tweeted it. And Kate Spain retweeted it! That made my day. Or my week. Perhaps my year. Nothing worse than a designer who hates what you do with their fabric, right?
Now I am debating how to quilt it. My mother sent me a link to theFree Motion Quilting website. Wow, all kinds of designs for quilting. Maybe too many. I spent a lot time clicking on that website yesterday. So much time clicking that I was scrambling for dinner last night and laundry was not done at all. Please take note that every example has a video! Very helpful for me who sometimes (or most of the time) really struggles to figure out how someone did a particular pattern.
I think I decided how I want to quilt it. Today I will practice the pattern I want. Unless I change my mind on the quilting. Again.
