Love (Almost) Free Patterns!

by Heather on April 30, 2010

I have seen this magazine around a few times, but I’ve never picked it up:
Stitch
Don’t know why I didn’t pick it up. Maybe the girls were with me and they were getting bored. Maybe I didn’t want another magazine that I felt loyalty to. Who knows.

Then I saw a post on Sewing Mamas about a free Oliver + S pattern.  If you have not heard about these patterns, they are adorable!  But…..waaaayyyyy too little for my growing kids.  I was kind of excited that they extended the sizing.  And what a perfect opportunity to test drive a new pattern!  Download and go, right?  I did need the magazine for sizing and instructions.  Of course after seeing the magazine all over, do you think I could easily find one?  Of course not.  I was the crazy woman in JoAnns looking behind all of the magazines for just a glimpse of the cover I needed.  After many stops, I found a fresh stack at Barnes & Noble.  Whew.

As a side note….my worst fears are realized.  I am addicted.  Lots and lots of cute, cute, interesting ideas in this magazine.  I loved it!

This is my youngest, my baby, my little one.  She can no longer fit into Gymboree clothing (sob, sob).  She is getting bigger everyday.  (sniff, sniff)  But isn’t this ruffled shirt CUTE?  My teen wants one.  While this is the largest size that is on the pattern, it almost fits my teen.  I will just add some width and we will be fine.

As patterns go, its a good one.  There is elastic in the back which I really appreciate.  It keeps things where they need to be.  It washed well.  The front ruffles are left to fray with stay stitching.  Very cute idea and definitely a good idea to make this a quick and easy pattern.  I’m off to make more….so cute!
